Gunung Stong

Dabong · Kuala Krai

The park runs to nearly 22,000 hectares of Kelantan interior, and the thing you see first is the waterfall. Jelawang drops over 300 metres in seven tiers and is visible from the road long before you reach the entrance. The climb to Kem Baha follows it up, roughly an hour and a half of steady work, and the camp sits at the top of the falls looking back over Dabong. A lot of people stop there and that is a full trip in itself. Past Kem Baha it is a full day out and back to any of the three peaks, Gunung Baha, Gunung Ayam and Gunung Stong at 1,422m. Doing all three in one go is the BAS traverse, and that is a serious hike, not a weekend stroll.
